SES warns citizens about mine danger in forests

In addition to the fire danger in forests, ecosystems, and open areas, there is also a mine danger today. This applies in particular to the de-occupied territories.

It was emphasized by Oleksandr Khorunzhyy, Press Officer of the State Emergency Service, at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“It is in the forests that we can largely observe territory contaminated by landmines and explosives, the area which was once the enemy positions, mostly in the de-occupied territories. It should be remembered that the enemy is deploying different types of landmines, both anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, in particular. The hazards throughout  Ukraine’s fields, grasslands, and forests are really invisible,” emphasized Oleksandr Khorunzhyy.

He urged citizens to refrain from visiting those areas that have not yet been inspected for pyrotechnic residues as a subject of area clearance.

“So once again, I want to emphasize, especially for those living in now liberated territories, avoid entering the woods, fields, and forest plantations, and don’t drive on dirt roads. This includes agricultural land unless the State Emergency Service has inspected one, the National Guard, and the National Police, and local authorities have this information. The latter should accumulate all the information from those services involved in demining and explosive ordnance disposal, including mine action operators.”
