Russia is raising a generation in occupied Ukraine to see war as normal, and it will be hard to reintegrate them, rights advocates warn

The guiding idea of the schooling is the “Russian World” ideology.

Valentyna Potapova, head of national advocacy at the Almenda Center for Civic Education, laid this out at the International Forum of the Crimea Platform Expert Network.

“Everything Russia does in education in the occupied territories is meant to make children see war as normal,” she said. “The federation’s entire education system is built so that war becomes the norm and Russian aggression is justified.”

Russia’s entire education system teaches children to tolerate dictatorship, Potapova said, which is why this generation will be hard to win back. “Russia only occupies Crimea if it occupies children’s minds,” she said.
