Russia carrying out massive deportation of the Ukrainians, thus breaches The Geneva Convention of 1949 – Denisova
Aside from mass rapes, Russia forcibly takes thousands of Ukrainians out of the country to its territory, which is a breaching of Geneva Convention of 1949 and pursuing a policy of genocide.
This was stated by Lyudmila Denisova, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner (Ombudsman) for Human Rights at a briefing at the Ukrainian Media Centre, taken place in Kyiv.
Denisova refers to the data of Russian officials who have publicly announced the departure of 790,000 citizens, including 150,000 children, from Ukraine to Russia. 130,000 people were deported from Mariupol. Another 20 thousand citizens are in so-called filtration camps on the border. According to Lyudmila Denisova, there have been documented cases of Ukrainians being deported even to the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (District) of Russia.
“It is officially reported, they smuggle children, those parentless in particular, unaccompanied minors without adults. Next week, the Russian State Duma will be considering a bill to simplify the procedure for Russian citizens to adopt children of “Ukrainian origin”: they don’t even call them citizens of Ukraine, making no mention of this. We know for a fact that even before the hostilities turned aggressive, before February 24, more than 1100 children were taken out from orphanages and boarding schools of certain areas in the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, 280 of which were about to be adopted by Russian citizens. Under the Rome Statute system for genocide awareness and prevention, the deportation and adoption of children of one ethnic group by adoptive parents of another ethnic group, being in a state of military conflict with each other, considered as a genocide of a people. This is the genocide of the Ukrainian people,” Lyudmila Denisova said.
Denisova also added that Ukrainian citizens forcibly deported from Ukraine to the Russian, who can get to the Russian-Estonian border by any means, can go to the Ukrainian camp in the city of Narva even having no passports. They can return home after being checked by Ukrainian state agencies.
Denisova also added that Russian citizens are already trying to flee Russia, exploiting the Narva camp.
“We will not let them through”, Denisova added.
