Rights and duties of tenants and landlords in times of war: Cedos analytical center presents an updated Legal Guide
Cedos, an independent think tank, has updated its Legal Guide to housing rentals. In addition to the list of rights and obligations of tenants and landlords, as well as answers to frequently asked questions, it includes a section on renting housing under martial law.
This was stated by Ivan Verbytskyi, the director of Cedos, during the presentation at the Media Center Ukraine.
“In total, we have collected 52 questions, answers to them and tips that help to understand general issues: what is a lease, how is it regulated, what can be in the contract, what documents should be shown to the counterparty, etc. Specific issues related to landlords: what their rights and obligations are, what they can and cannot demand, whether or not they can register a person in the apartment, etc. What are the rights and obligations of tenants – what they can and cannot do. We also looked at the specific issues related to renting that arise under martial law – whether it somehow affects these rights and obligations,” Verbytskyi said.
The guide provides up-to-date information on renting apartments, houses and individual rooms in buildings.
The legal guide is available on the think tank’s website and can be downloaded to serve as a reference in situations where it is necessary to understand how to protect one’s rights without violating the rights of others.
“If we all act in this way – defending and protecting our rights without violating the rights of others – our interaction as people in society will be much better,” added the Cedos director.
