Retail operations amidst war: in first month of 2024, store openings up by 2% in Ukraine
The 487 new stores that continued to operate since opening in the first month of the current year led to a 2% increase in store openings, adding to the total number of stores working in the country today.
Andrii Zhuk, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Retail Association of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“We currently have only 19,448 stores — this is modern retail — these are supermarkets and stores that most Ukrainians now visit. This number includes 720 new stores that opened in the first month of this year. There are stores that, of course, close, because in retail a store opening doesn’t necessarily lead to success, there are stores that, unfortunately, close down. And there is a total of 487 stores, which is a +2% increase in store openings that we are observing in the first month of 2024,” said Andrii Zhuk.
