Register of Damage for Ukraine leaves out those harmed since 2014, rights advocates say

The gap denies those people any right to compensation for their suffering.

That was the point made by Daryna Pidhorna, a legal expert and analyst at the Raphael Lemkin Society, at the International Forum of the Crimea Platform Expert Network.

“In 2022 a mechanism was created, the Register of Damages for Ukraine,” she explained. “Civil society is fighting to have the period from 2014 to 2022 included as well, because as it stands this reparations framework leaves out the experience of Crimeans and of people who lived in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions before 2022, denying them any chance of compensation for their suffering.”
