Prosecutors: Sweden makes the first arrest of a Russian shadow-fleet ship at Ukraine’s request

It set a precedent that drew responses from other countries and gave a push to international cooperation on the issue, Vitalii Sekretar, first deputy head of the prosecutor’s office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, said at the International Forum of the Crimea Platform Expert Network.

“We succeeded, and for that I am grateful to the law enforcement authorities of the Kingdom of Sweden, in detaining a vessel on Swedish territory that had been carrying grain out of occupied Ukraine,” the prosecutor said. “It was the first time a shadow-fleet vessel had been detained and arrested at the request of Ukrainian law enforcement.”

Russia’s crimes in occupied Crimea, he said, are the aggressor’s deliberate policy.
