Over the past three years, influenza viruses have begun to actively circulate in people in Ukraine

Today, the number of influenza A and B viruses is much higher than in previous years.

It was announced by Viktor Liashko, Minister of Health of Ukraine during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform. 

“Today we continue epidemiological surveillance of acute respiratory viral infections, including both COVID-19 and influenza. We have been monitoring information on influenza activity for 3 year-round in the country. Earlier, when a coronavirus pandemic was hitting in 2020-2022, the circulation of influenza viruses was quite sporadic. Most cases occurred as single isolated events. Today, after the New Year celebrations, the number of influenza A and B viruses surge is reported to be much higher than in previous years, and it starts to compete with the spread of COVID-19,” the Minister explained.

According to Mr. Liashko, the epidemic situation is currently under control, with a general epidemic threshold condition, so no additional public health and social measures are being taken at the national level. However, if the dynamics of the number of cases tend to increase, appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the regulatory measures.
