Over a year, the Commissioner on Persons Gone Missing under Special Circumstances team returned bodies of more than 1.5 thousand deceased soldiers – Oleh Kotenko

Oleh Kotenko, Commissioner on Persons Gone Missing under Special Circumstances, made such information public during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform. 

Thus, according to the information provided, seven Office of the Commissioner on Persons Gone Missing in Special Circumstances search parties were gathered over the year, and about 150 liberated localities were investigated for possible unmarked graves. The groups also searched over 500 areas in the de-occupied territories. In a year, joint efforts resulted in 1,500 fallen defenders’ bodies returning. 

Oleh Kotenko noted that all seven gathered search groups are now operating on the front line.

“These groups are working in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions,” he said.

According to Oleh Kotenko, all parties search for persons reported missing daily.

“Dealing with daily mine danger, as Ukraine territory is contaminated with mines, makes the search parties’ work very serious. There are cases of casualties while searching for those deceased.”
