Over 90% of civilian detainees subjected to torture – MIHR
More than 90% of civilian prisoners held by russia are subjected to torture.
This information was shared by Anna Rassamakhina, head of the War and Justice Department at the Media Initiative for Human Rights (MIHR), during a research presentation at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Recently there was a statement that more than 90% of Ukrainian prisoners of war are tortured in captivity. The MIPL team has come to the same conclusion that the worst torture is experienced by prisoners of war. What happens to them is really horrifying. But at the same time, it is very rare that the detained civilians are not subjected to some kind of torture or ill-treatment. They may be deprived of food, kept in unheated rooms, denied access to toilets, and beaten. And I can agree that more than 90% of civilians are tortured,” she said.
