Over 500 ships carrying more than 15 million tons of cargo pass through humanitarian corridor
The grain initiative, which was implemented with the help of Türkiye and the UN, is currently not functioning, although certain negotiations are ongoing in hopes of finding a possible format for the international partners to aid Ukraine. Meanwhile, hundreds of ships carrying millions of tons of cargo were able to pass through the humanitarian corridor currently functioning in Ukraine.
Vasyl Bodnar, Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
According to him, international partners, in particular Türkiye, are interested in the further functioning of this corridor.
“We have our own functioning corridor, through which over 15 million tons of cargo have already been transported, as well as more than 500 ships (have passed through the humanitarian corridor – Ed.). And there is a share of Turkish business, which buys certain products in Ukraine, certain raw materials, and also supplies the necessary goods to Ukraine. And here the numbers are only growing, as business is also interested, and there is a great benefit for carriers,” he said.
Vasyl Bodnar also recalled that the week before Türkiye, Romania and Bulgaria had signed a joint initiative on demining in the western part of the Black Sea. And this initiative, he emphasized, also benefits the functioning of the maritime transport corridor, which is used for the export of Ukrainian products. Vasyl Bondar pointed out that this is extremely important for the safe passage of ships and cargo.
