On the eve of the seasonal wave of influenza and viral infections, the number of hospitalised people with COVID-19 started to increase in the Lviv region

While last week 72 people with coronavirus visited doctors, this week there were 188. The working-age population aged 30-60 is at risk, said Natalia Ivanchenko, General Director of the Lviv Regional Centre for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine at a briefing at the Ukraine-Lviv Media Center. Therefore, doctors advise, in addition to seasonal flu vaccinations, to get vaccinated against coronavirus.

“So far, there is no vaccine that can protect against influenza and coronavirus alike. That is, now you need to make two injections. You can do it in different hands at the same time. One for influenza and one for coronavirus, the dose that a person needs. You can get these two vaccinations either on the same day or at different intervals,” explains Natalia Ivanchenko, General Director of the Lviv Regional Centre for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Coronavirus vaccines are free of charge. Today, there are products from three companies in the Lviv region: Comirnaty (Pfaizer), CoronaVac and Janssen from Johnson & Johnson. There is no need to talk about collective immunity that could deter a new wave of COVID-19. According to Ivanchenko, the level of vaccination in the Lviv region is negligible: 47 % of the region’s population has been vaccinated twice, and 8% have received the first booster dose. And only 0.9% have received the second booster dose.
