Olena Zelenska: Over 80% of Ukrainians are living in chronic stress

Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska highlighted the severe psychological toll of war on the Ukrainian population, telling an audience at a conference in Rome that Ukraine places particular emphasis on restoring human potential, as it is people who keep everything functioning, including the economy.

“More than 80% of Ukrainians are living in a chronic state of stress and emotional strain. Our economy continues to function thanks to millions of people who go to work after spending their nights in basements,” she said.

Zelenska, who oversees mental health recovery efforts across all sectors in Ukraine, urged the international community to support a global medical partnership with Ukraine. She said Ukrainian doctors, who are working under some of the harshest conditions imaginable, have gained experience that could benefit healthcare systems around the world.
