Oleksandr Tkachenko: With Ukrainian books, we keep in touch with our IDPs not only within the country but also abroad
25 countries have received Ukrainian books. This way, we keep in touch with our citizens, those internally displaced not only within the country but also abroad.
Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, stressed this by summarizing the results of the first year of the charitable action “A Ukrainian Book for Ukrainian Children” at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.
“It is no secret that Russians also consider books to be a weapon. In the de-occupied territories, there were cases when invaders collected books exclusively in Ukrainian. Only because books were in Ukrainian they tried to expropriate and destroy them. That is why it is important to continue this initiative in the de-occupied territories, and so we have launched a campaign covering Points of Invincibility and the Ukrainian military initiative called “Book to the Front”, the minister said.
At the same time, he said today we could already observe the reverse process with Ukrainian books from Ukraine’s partner states.
According to him, books by contemporary Ukrainian authors are being translated into French and German in France and Germany.
“Special funds are allocated for this purpose. Similarly, funds are provided for the translation of well-known French popular authors to replenish Ukrainian libraries. So this process is already running, and I hope that despite the current difficulties in the publishing sector, it will be supported in this way,” said Oleksandr Tkachenko.
