No flag, nor anthem to be featured at the opening ceremony – Vadym Guttsait on participation of russian and belarusian athletes in 2024 Olympics

There will be almost no athletes from russia and belarus at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Vadym Guttsait, President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, made this statement during a press conference at Media Center Ukraine.

“So much has been done during these two years of work to ban russians and belarusians from participating. And we succeeded. Today, I consider it a victory for Ukraine, a victory for all of us, all who worked so that there will be almost no russians and belarusians at the Olympics. They won’t be present there, no flag, no anthem, they will be in separate teams. They won’t be at the opening of the Olympic Games, when the whole world is watching their teams, they (the russians and belarusians – Ed.) won’t be there at all,” he said.

According to Vadym Guttsait, the International Olympic Committee did not allow the best athletes from the russian federation and belarus to participate in the Olympics. In addition, he pointed out that the russian wrestling federation refused to participate in the Olympic Games.

“That’s the fruit of our labor — with the number of athletes (from the russian federation and belarus – Ed.) they will be almost invisible at the Olympic Games,” Vadym Guttsait emphasized.
