National justice system and legislation reform possible upon proper implementation of Rome Statute – Expert

Ukrainian soldiers believe that one of the key advantages of ratifying the Rome Statute is the reform of the national justice system. However, this benefit can only be realized if the Rome Statute is fully ratified and properly implemented.

Arie Mora, Communications and Advocacy Manager at Ukrainian Legal Advisory Group, made this statement at Media Center Ukraine during the presentation of the findings of the survey conducted among active military personnel.

“The bill on ratification was also accompanied by the bill for integrating the Rome Statute into national legislation, and it is likely to be adopted during the vote. But, as noted earlier, (the Ukrainian – Ed.) soldiers believe that one of the key advantages associated with the ratification of the Rome Statute is the reform of the national justice system and legislation. However, this can only be achieved with proper implementation. We know that difficult decisions were made in order for these bills to be considered, there is much to be improved about them. Therefore, it is crucial that this opinion inspires the authorities to take responsibility and ensure thorough implementation and the complete ratification of the Rome Statute,” said Arie Mora.
