NABU “leaks” scandal: Semen Kryvonos announces conclusion of internal investigation
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has wrapped up its internal investigation into allegations of undue pressure on whistleblowers.
Semen Kryvonos, Director of NABU, made this announcement, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Yesterday, I signed off on the findings of the internal investigation, which centered around incidents following the pre-trial inquiry into the leaks. This investigation scrutinized potential unlawful pressure on whistleblowers and examined other related concerns,” Kryvonos stated.
He further disclosed that the Internal Control Department had identified several breaches of the NABU Code of Ethics, the Law on Civil Service, and various other regulatory guidelines.
Kryvonos also mentioned that the individual under investigation had submitted objections to the findings, which have been incorporated into the investigation’s official record.
“I have approved the report on this internal investigation, which will now be reviewed by the disciplinary commission in accordance with established procedures,” he continued.
The disciplinary commission, as outlined by Kryvonos, comprises five members—three from NABU and two representatives from the Civil Oversight Council under NABU. This panel is tasked with reviewing the case materials, determining the culpability of the individual in question, and making recommendations on whether disciplinary actions should be taken.
Kryvonos emphasized that the review of the materials is set to commence shortly, with meetings to follow.
“To ensure fairness, I have appointed Viktor Prudkovskykh, a representative from the Civil Oversight Council, as the head of the disciplinary commission. This decision was finalized yesterday,” Kryvonos concluded.
