More than 11,000 apartment buildings in the capital can be designated for winter heating – Oleksandr Kharchenko

The capital is working on backup heating options for apartment buildings. Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Center for Energy Research, made this statement during a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center.

“In most of Kyiv’s buildings—there are only 15,000 buildings in the capital, of which over 11,000 are apartment buildings—it is clear how to set up a backup system. The backup heating will be sufficient to maintain a temperature of +16 to +18 degrees in winter. But there are about 2,500 buildings that are technically impossible to set up a backup system for. Most of the work is currently focused on figuring out how to keep them safe if something happens. This includes mobile boiler rooms and mobile generators,” explains Oleksandr Kharchenko.

The expert predicts that in two years, all buildings will have backup power, and in three years, power capable of maintaining a temperature of +20 degrees.
