Military expert says russia opting for negotiations

But for now, russia still insists on unchanged and unfavorable conditions for Ukraine.

Oleksiy Melnyk, Head of Foreign Policy and International Security Programs at Razumkov Centre spoke about this during an expert meeting with journalists to discuss results of six months of the war entitled “Front line status and development prospects” at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“russia no longer has the initiative, Ukraine does not have it yet. Ukraine took away the monopoly on such an initiative. Currently, there are three scenarios of the development of the events. The first is the liberation of the entire territory of Ukraine. It is desirable, but difficult to implement. The second is the withdrawal of the russians to the positions they occupied before February 23. The third scenario, which is not desirable at all, is the consolidation of the positions that the occupier has taken as of today,” — he said.

But Ukraine cannot ignore the opinion of civil society. russia is indeed looking for ways to negotiate, but the conditions of the complete capitulation of Ukraine have not changed yet.
