Mental health in time of war: dozens of women and children are being examined and rehabilitated in Odesa

The Ukrainian Medical Center for Rehabilitation of Mothers and Children of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine provides family rehabilitation and mental health care for mothers and children who have suffered from hostilities, escaped from the occupation, or are family members of military personnel.

This was stated by Vladyslav Frolov, medical director of the Center for Rehabilitation of Mother and Child of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, at a briefing at the Ukraine-Odesa Media Center.

“The priority of our center is to provide assistance to the families of servicemen, fallen heroes, prisoners of war, IDPs and all victims of war. That’s why we work with the Children of Heroes Foundation – the families of the foundation’s wards can undergo a comprehensive examination and rehabilitation at the center free of charge. Several families from Zaporizhzhia have already undergone such a rehabilitation course and another 20 families are scheduled to undergo a rehabilitation course,” said the director of the Rehabilitation Center.

The rehabilitation course lasts 14-21 days and is free of charge for patients.

“The institution employs 151 people, 103 of whom are medical professionals. This is a powerful team of highly qualified specialists. The hospital is designed for 120 beds. We have 7 departments: admission, clinical and diagnostic, psychological and pedagogical correction, psychosomatic and neurological rehabilitation, psychosomatic and allergic rehabilitation, physiotherapy and exercise therapy. We also have our own laboratory,” noted Vladyslav Frolov.

Several families from Zaporizhzhia have already undergone such a rehabilitation course at the Center, and another 20 families are scheduled to undergo rehabilitation. In addition, families with children from the active combat zone or frontline areas, such as Donetsk, Kherson, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Mykolaiv regions, are currently undergoing a comprehensive examination and rehabilitation course. There are also many children from Odesa, Chernihiv, and Cherkasy regions.

Residing in Odesa, mothers with children can undergo a comprehensive examination and outpatient rehabilitation, while those who come to us from other regions undergo inpatient rehabilitation.
