Kyiv set to host premiere of Kherson playwright’s “For Three”
On October 5-6, the Ivan Kozlovskyi Art and Concert Center in Kyiv will premiere the play “For Three” by Kherson playwright Aliyona Movchan, directed by Nadia Ageeva-Shved. The production, staged on the chamber stage, is a collaboration between the Kyiv National Theatre of Operetta and the Kherson Regional Academic Music and Drama Theater named after Mykola Kulish.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the Media Center Ukraine.
“For Three” is a narrative reflecting the daily life of pre-war Kherson—a city many long to see restored—depicting seemingly insurmountable problems that are resolved with humor, relationships, and love. The storyline explores how small moments possess the power to save the world.
“Even in the midst of wartime, stories about love emerge, because love truly has the power to save the world,” Movchan shared. “The play addresses vital themes of love and the notion of home. Its emotional peak is a monologue where the protagonist declares that only at home do you feel truly grounded.”
Andrii Karpov, an actor known for his work in both theater and film, emphasized the significance of such narratives. “During war, when pain is a shared experience, stories of love have the potential to heal. It’s crucial for people to keep seeking that love,” he said.
For the Kherson theater community, staging productions outside their region is not just a chance to connect with displaced Kherson residents, but also an opportunity to present their work beyond the confines of bomb shelters. Aliyona Movchan noted that the initiatives showcasing performances by Kherson artists at theaters in cities like Mykolaiv, Kyiv, and Lviv have been invaluable.
