Kherson’s theatre festival ‘Melpomene of Tavria’ to be held in Odesa due to the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam explosion
In September, the Odesa academic Ukrainian music and drama theatre will host the event. Yulia Pyvovarova, director and artistic director of the theatre, told this at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.
She noted that even during the occupation of Kherson, Oleksandr Knyga, general director and artistic director of the Kherson regional academic music and drama theatre managed to hold the event online.
“The city of Kherson has always had a powerful theatre festival, the Melpomene of Tavria. But due to the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam, some performances of this festival will be held on the stage of our theatre. We understand how difficult it is now in Kherson, and that is why we are trying to help our colleagues,” – Pyvovarova said.
She also added that the 2022/23 season at the Odesa academic Ukrainian music and drama theatre will end with the “Carpathian Western”. The new season will start on the 24th August with the premiere of last year’s “Sasha, Take Out the Trash”. And on the 27th August, Odesa will see another premiere – Olga Kobylyanska’s romance “On Sunday Morning I Dug a Potion”.
