Justice, equality, rights: KyivPride organizers outline 2025 demands to the Ukrainian authorities
Organizers of KyivPride 2025 have announced four key demands addressed to the government, focusing on the protection and advancement of LGBTQ+ rights in Ukraine.
Anna Sharyhina, co-founder of the Kharkiv-based women’s association Sphere and PrideHub resource center, presented the list during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“This year, KyivPride, in coordination with other organizations, as well as community activists, has identified four primary demands, along with three additional ones,” she stated.
According to Sharyhina, the four core demands are as follows: the introduction of fair criminal liability for hate crimes; legal recognition of family partnerships for both military personnel and civilians, as a crucial step toward achieving marriage equality; the fulfillment of Ukraine’s obligations under its European integration roadmap, particularly in the areas of the rule of law and human rights; and the implementation of a legal gender recognition procedure based on an individual’s self-identification, without requiring mandatory medical or psychological intervention.
