International tribunal for putin and his accomplices: signing of the Memorandum on prosecution of russian leadership for crime of aggression
The inter-factional parliamentary association of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine “Tribunal for russian Aggressors,” the All-Ukrainian NGO “Ukrainian Bar Association” and the International Bar Association signed a Memorandum on cooperation in holding the highest military and political leadership of the russian federation accountable for their crimes, in particular by creating a Special International Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
During the discussion of the Memorandum at the country’s main discussion platform BrainHub in Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform, Dr. Mark Ellis, Executive Director of the International Bar Association, underlined the International Bar Association’s support for Ukraine. He noted that from the very beginning of the russian aggression, the Association has been convinced that it was a violation of the most sacred principles of international law, and it was necessary to ensure the responsibility of those who not only committed these crimes, but also made decisions on the invasion.
“This year, the International Bar Association’s governing council that includes over 200 bar associations from throughout the world and the top lawyers from throughout the world, unanimously passed a resolution indicating our support for the creation of an International Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression. I am not certain I remember at any time in the history of the IBA, where a council of diverse thoughts and opinions came together and unanimously approved a resolution of this magnitude”, he added and emphasized that not only the Memorandum on the establishment of the tribunal is important, but so is the unanimity in support of Ukraine, in order to ensure that criminals are brought to justice.
In turn, Oleksandr Kachura, Member of Parliament of Ukraine, Co-Head of the inter-factional association “Tribunal for russian Aggressors” NGO, noted that the establishment of the tribunal is in the interest of the whole world.
“If we don’t do it today, if we don’t create an International Tribunal, then all the potential aggressors around the world are watching very closely what will happen in Ukraine. And this is not only in our interest, it is not in the interest of our women, our children, who are being killed by russian missiles. This is in the interest of the entire world. Now the issue of the future architecture of responsibility and justice in the world is being determined,” MP Oleksandr Kachura emphasized after signing the Memorandum.
Summarizing, the politician expressed his conviction that the punishment for the crime of aggression can stop further conflicts and put an end to this war.
