HIV testing in Ukraine surges in 2024, reaching 2.5 million
The number of HIV tests conducted in Ukraine surged to 2.5 million in 2024, a dramatic increase from the 1.5 million tests performed last year.
Olha Klymova, a specialist in the HIV Prevention and Control Department at the Public Health Center of Ukraine’s Ministry of Health, shared these figures during a press conference at Media Center Ukraine.
“This year, the number of HIV tests conducted in healthcare facilities has risen significantly, reaching over 2.5 million,” Klymova explained. “During the same period last year, only 1.5 million tests were conducted.”
Olha Klymova also highlighted that in the first 10 months of 2024, nearly 12,000 people in Ukraine were newly diagnosed with HIV.
It is worth noting that December 1 marks World AIDS Day, a global reminder of the ongoing battle against a disease that has claimed the lives of approximately 40.4 million people worldwide.
