The country’s most vulnerable regions to grid stability issues are Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Zhytomyr, Odesa, Zaporizhia, and some other cities. Local authorities and city halls are working to ensure that critical infrastructure systems are equipped with power generators so that heating and water supply can continue to operate in the event of a blackout. Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director at the Energy Industry Research Center, made this statement at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“However, high-rise buildings have certain peculiarities, having individual pump systems installed. We are talking about heat and water pumps. To maintain backup power for pumps to work in the event of a power outage, they should be equipped with in-house emergency generator systems.”
Without them, heating and water supply will be provided to the apartment buildings without further distribution to the floors. Oleksandr Kharchenko stated it during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform. The Director at the Energy Industry Research Center advised residents, in particular those of condominium association communities, to take care of heating and water supply in winter.
