Global average annual temperature getting much higher – Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center
Over the past year, each month surpassed the global average temperature by 1.5 or 1.6 degrees.
Natalia Ptukha, Spokesperson of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“The climate is changing, and now meteorologists and researchers worldwide are conducting extensive studies on this topic. They emphasize that the past few years, especially this year and the last, have shown significantly higher temperature levels compared to the pre-industrial period. Consequently, the average annual temperature on Earth is steadily increasing. For example, over the past 12 or 13 months, each month has exceeded the global average temperature by 1.5 to 1.6 degrees. That is, this is the threshold that was once defined by climatologists as critical, and we are approaching it,” she said.
Natalia Ptukha also noted that in recent years, Ukraine has experienced increasingly intense heat waves, with warm periods becoming longer and cold periods growing shorter. However, this trend is not limited to Ukraine, as numerous temperature records have been broken this year, particularly on the west coast of the U.S. and in the Balkan countries.
