From Ukrainian classics and history to fantasy and romance novels: how reading habits of Ukrainians have changed over the course of full-scale war
If at the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukrainian readers chose Ukrainian classics and Ukrainian history, now the demand in the book market has changed, and more readers are choosing genres such as fantasy and romance novels.
Oleksandr Krasovytskyy, writer, Editor in Chief of Folio Publishers, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“In the first period, the demand increased greatly in two directions – Ukrainian classics and Ukrainian history. And it’s understandable, people were trying to find answers. Today we have a different picture in the book market, and other genres are among the market leaders. It’s normal, our readers are resorting to escapism – it’s fantasy and romance novels. Everything has changed, people are not looking for answers, but for opportunities to distract themselves from what is happening,” explained Oleksandr Krasovytskyy.
