Food prices: No decline expected ahead of Easter, says Denys Marchuk

Amid ongoing food inflation and various market pressures, consumers should not anticipate a drop in food prices ahead of the Easter holidays.

Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council, made this statement during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“The process of food inflation is ongoing, and since the beginning of the year, it has already exceeded 13%. This directly impacts production costs, which are then reflected in retail prices,” Marchuk explained.

He emphasized that the effects of war continue to drive up expenses, particularly in logistics.

“The war factor remains, as supply chain disruptions have made logistics significantly more expensive. Fuel prices, wages, and workforce expenses are also key contributors—especially as businesses must retain workers amid mobilization. Those who cannot manage this shift to automation, which brings additional costs. All of this feeds into production costs. So, unfortunately, we must acknowledge that prices will not decrease during this period, especially before Easter, when demand for certain products rises,” he said.
