Fewer Ukrainians condemn people in temporarily occupied territories for communication with occupation authorities – report results

Currently, Ukraine is witnessing a decrease in the level of condemnation directed at citizens from temporarily occupied territories for their various forms of communication with occupation authorities.

Daria Svyrydova, Partner at AzOnes, Member of the Advisory Council on De-occupation and Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of the Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol under the President of Ukraine, made this statement during the presentation of the report on challenges related to the reintegration of de-occupied territories and memorialization, which was held at Media Center Ukraine.

“We have also observed another trend: the level of condemnation for actions by the population in occupied territories, particularly regarding their forms of communication with the occupation authorities, is decreasing. And in general, the Ukrainian population views the possible communication by the people in the occupation as acceptable in certain situations, and the state’s agreeable attitude towards it can be perceived as fair. For example, obtaining a russian passport in the occupied territories or other steps interacting with the occupation authorities are perceived with understanding,” she said.

According to Daria Svyrydova, this is an important factor for future reintegration processes and an indication of what the state should rely on when developing reintegration policies.

It is worth noting that this report is based on the results of a series of in-depth interviews from the de-occupied territories as well as the findings from a national survey conducted by the Sociological Group “Rating” in the period from July 5 to 12, 2024.
