“Female officers graduating from universities in 2023 will be able to occupy positions of leadership in Ukraine’s Armed Forces, and in a few years we will see generals,” Oksana Hryhoryeva

A positive gender shift took place in the security and defense sector in 2016 and then gained momentum in 2018, when women in the military began to occupy all positions. Oksana Hryhoryeva, Gender Advisor to the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, made this statement at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“The same applies to training at military universities: in 2018, girls were allowed to enroll in any specialization. It takes a certain amount of time to prepare an officer, and officers with relevant experience who will graduate in 2023 will be able to occupy leadership positions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. I think that in a few years, we will see more (women) in positions of senior leadership; these will be positions of generals. We are moving steadily, and in some areas even with leaps and bounds. This policy is supported by the leadership,” — Hryhoryeva said.
