The European Commission supported the program of the President of Ukraine to plant 1 billion trees, adding another 3 billion to the initial goal. Virginius Sinkavičius, EU Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans, and Fisheries, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“Our common goals are to plant more trees in Ukraine. Ukraine’s goal is to plant 1 billion trees. We have combined our goals and want to plant 4 billion trees. We want this to be an achievable goal for both Ukraine and the European Union. Although the war continues and we understand that many green spaces will be destroyed due to russian terrorism, we will make every effort to plant 4 billion or even more trees by 2030 so the next generations could have a greener country,” —Sinkavičius said.
