Ensuring uninterrupted communication in Kyiv during power outages: What measures are being taken
Kyiv is implementing essential measures to maintain uninterrupted GSM communication during power shutdowns.
This was announced by Petro Panteleiev, deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration, during a recent briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“We have three primary mobile operators, each of which has been working on installing generators and batteries at their base stations, and this work has been completed. Our primary condition is that GSM, the standard mobile connection, must remain operational,” Panteleiev explained. “During power outages, many people lose their home internet access and turn to mobile data, which can become overloaded. We recognize this challenge. Therefore, it is imperative for each operator to ensure that GSM communication remains uninterrupted during blackouts. They must verify that the installed backup batteries are functioning, that fuel is delivered promptly, and that these systems are adequately maintained to prevent any loss of communication, especially GSM. The deputy head confirmed that this effort is currently underway and that the city is actively monitoring the situation. During power failures, if they occur, communication levels are assessed twice daily using our own metrics. “I can assure you that we are closely managing this situation, and in collaboration with the operators, we are committed to ensuring that communication in the city remains seamless,” Panteleiev stated.
