Enemy strike group conducting training exercises in the Azov Sea – Dmytro Pletenchuk
Currently, there is a group of six enemy ships in the Sea of Azov, three of which are carriers of cruise missiles of the Buyan-M project. Based on their actions, it appears the enemy is conducting training exercises in the area.
Dmytro Pletenchuk, Spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“There is a strike group in the Azov sea, it is much larger there (than in the Black Sea – Ed.). There are at least six ships, three of which are carrying Buyan-M-class cruise missiles and three large amphibious ships. Considering the nature of their actions and the composition of the group, it appears that this is an educational process, given that the academic year has begun in the armed forces of the so-called russian federation. And the russians may consider the Sea of Azov safer than the Black Sea, due to their belief that they control the Kerch Strait,” Dmytro Pletenchuk noted.
The Spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy mentioned that the Sea of Azov is quite shallow and the number of recommended routes is limited, that’s why the russians are in the same location as civilian vessels.
“Accordingly, the russians are are present in the same area where numerous civilian vessels are also located. The russians use them as a ‘shield,’ which is basically a usual tactic for them,” he added.
