Economic scare tactics, including the gas issue: What influence tools could be used in Moldova’s parliamentary elections
The parliamentary elections in Moldova will be an important test for the country, and one of the tools of influence could be the gas crisis. However, the focus will be not only on energy blackmail, but also on attempts to create a divide between citizens with Moldovan and Romanian identities.
This opinion was expressed by political analyst Vadym Denysenko during the presentation of a research at the Media Center Ukraine.
“If we talk about the gas crisis, this card will undoubtedly be played. But the key issue will not be gas itself – it will be one of the elements, but not the main one. The central strategy in these elections will be to drive a wedge between people with Moldovan identity and Romanians. And the main tool for this will be scare tactics, especially economic ones. Gas will play a role in these economic scare tactics, but it will not be the dominant factor,” he explained.
