Digitization of social services: are citizens’ personal data protected?
All data of citizens receiving state social services is safe.
This was announced by Kostiantyn Koshelenko, Deputy Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Our system can now work in the cloud, which ensures that all data is protected. No one can download citizens’ personal data in bulk. Only a specific social worker, with a valid reason to work with a particular person, can access their profile in the system. Every action they perform is logged, including viewing or modifying the profile,” he explained, stressing that operating the system in the cloud also ensures physical security and data preservation under various circumstances.
Koshelenko added that efforts are underway to develop a system for informing citizens about the status of their social service requests and any required actions regarding their personal cases.
“We are currently working on a notification system so that when someone submits a request, they will receive push notifications about its status – for example, whether the request is being processed, completed, or if further action is needed. If you haven’t applied for social assistance, but someone in a social welfare office is reviewing your case, you’ll get a notification saying so,” he added.
