COVID-19 surge in Ukraine: Health official Ihor Kuzin signals potential timing for quarantine measures
Ukraine could see the reintroduction of quarantine measures if COVID-19 cases surpass the average annual incidence during the current “inter-epidemic” period.
That’s according to Ihor Kuzin, Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine, speaking at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Ukraine is currently in what we refer to as an inter-epidemic period, meaning we do not anticipate a significant rise in cases that would warrant quarantine restrictions,” Ihor Kuzin explained. “However, if we observe a marked increase in cases that surpasses the annual average during this period, regional chief sanitary doctors will need to recommend targeted restrictive measures. These measures will be tailored to the specific groups affected in each region, as the situation can vary widely—some areas might see outbreaks in schools, while others could face issues in industrial facilities or workplaces. The response must be adapted accordingly.”
Despite the recent rise in cases, Kuzin reassured that current infection levels are still far from triggering quarantine or other restrictive measures.
“At this time, there are no risks of imposing local quarantines or additional restrictions,” Kuzin confirmed.
