Country’s economic growth and recovery impossible without unblocking ports — Yulia Klymenko

During a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform, Yulia Klymenko, Member of Parliament, First Deputy Head of Transport & Infrastructure Committee at the Verkhovna Rada, said that the issue of expanding its maritime potential is important for Ukraine.

According to her, ports are the source of 60% of Ukraine’s foreign currency earnings, and this figure could be higher.

“For us, this is strategically and economically important, because unless we unblock the ports and increase their capacity, build, repair, and renew the maritime infrastructure, the economic growth is impossible for us and economic recovery is impossible either,” — the People’s Deputy noted.
Yulia Klymenko noted that in the matter of developing the country’s maritime potential, “firstly, we must decide on a strategy, become a maritime state, get rid of all the soviet and disgraceful documents that have been signed since the 2000s.”

“There is a group of deputies who support the maritime economy and security, who systematically advocate for it. And we will continue, we have a work plan. We will continue to advocate for Ukraine as a maritime state and do everything at the legislative level to clear our sea coasts from our northern neighbor,” — she said.

Summing up, Yulia Klymenko pointed out that today it is important for Ukraine not to miss out on the opportunity “to put its agenda regarding the Black Sea and the Azov Sea regions on the global agenda.”
