Construction Equipment Operator School for Women: How businesses are addressing personnel issues and implementing gender policies today

The Construction Equipment Operator School for Women was launched in Kyiv region on the premises of the Nemishaieve Vocational College. The program will help women learn the profession of construction equipment operators, which can help Ukrainian companies cope with the personnel crisis amidst the war.

This issue was brought up at the discussion at Media Center Ukraine.

“In the premises of the Nemishaieve Vocational College, based on our experience, Alef Stroi Invest company launched the Construction Equipment Operator School for Women. This is the first school of its kind since independence, its format is akin to a bootcamp. And there really is such a synergy and assistance in every aspect — the state, donor support, us as an enterprise — to actually launch such a project and show why it is necessary,” said Yulia Skichko, owner, Director of Alef Stroi Invest.

The first group of women who have already started training includes a mother of three, whose youngest daughter is only one year old, and the oldest student in the group is 55 years old.

According to Yulia Skichko, full-board accommodation is organized for women including education, housing, meals, which are fully provided by the project. Students can master skills on the territory of the educational institution and focus on their personal lives in their spare time.

The first group will graduate already in October, after which the second wave of recruitment will begin immediately. In total, the plan is for five groups of women to undergo training and graduate from the Construction Equipment Operator School.
