Boom in distributed generation construction for Ukraine next year, predicts Yurii Boiko
Ukraine is poised for a surge in distributed and dispersed generation installation next year, potentially exceeding 1 GW.
Yurii Boiko, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine and Member of the Ukrenergo Supervisory Board, shared this forecast during a discussion at Media Center Ukraine.
“Major state-owned energy companies such as Naftogaz (oil and gas company), Ukrnafta (oil and gas exploration), Ukrtransnafta (oil transportation operator), and Ukrtransgaz (gas storage operator) have already launched projects with a combined capacity significantly over 1 GW. Additionally, Oschadbank, the State Savings Bank of Ukraine, recently announced they are leading commercial projects totaling around 500 MW of distributed generation. There are indeed numerous projects underway. However, I have more conservative estimates regarding their development dynamics. My forecast is that we will see a boom in distributed generation technologies expansion next year,” Boiko said.
Boiko is confident that the 1 GW figure will be surpassed multiple times next year. However, the availability of this capacity for the upcoming winter remains uncertain.
“Next year, I’m certain we will far exceed the 1 GW mark, but achieving this capacity by this winter is a very ambitious goal,” Boiko remarked.
He further explained that several factors could impact project completion by the end of this year, leading to the most active implementation in the following year.
“It’s challenging to predict how many projects, or what percentage, will be completed by the end of this year. Initially, it will definitely be a small amount. By year’s end, the chances of completion may increase significantly, but the real boom will occur next year. This is due to various factors, including logistics, project duration, and our accumulated experience, which will lead us to reconsider our priorities in project implementation,” he explained.
