Freerights Human Rights Association, which has been documenting war crimes committed by russians in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, has recorded 432 cases of torture of Ukrainian citizens committed by the occupiers on the territory of Ukraine within a year and a half.
Anastasiia Malynka, Freerights Human Rights Association information manager, announced these figures during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
he noted that one case may involve the torture of either one person, ten people, or more, making it challenging to establish the exact number of victims.
In particular, she noted that 128 cases of torture were recorded in Kherson oblast, 119 – in Kyiv oblast, 76 – in Kharkiv oblast, 34 – in Zaporizhia oblast, 28 – in Chernihiv oblast, 15 – in Sumy oblast, 12 – in Mykolaiv oblast, 10 – in Donetsk oblast, 6 – in Luhansk, 4 – in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
Freerights Human Rights Association representative emphasized that the number of recorded cases is much higher in the de-occupied territories, as human rights defenders managed to obtain more information in those areas.
“That’s why we do not know for sure what is happening in the territories that are currently under occupation, what atrocities are being committed against the civilian population,” added Anastasiia Malynka.
