Presentation of the analytical report: “Technologies of Terror: Comparative Analysis of Soviet and russian Torture Methods”

Why is it important?

Electroshocks, “reception” (a violent and sometimes deadly initiation where newly arrived prisoners must walk through a corridor lined with dozens of guards striking them with batons, rods, or hammers; falling results in even harsher beatings), mock executions, forced physical labor, and denial of medical care: the MIHR analyzed 40 testimonies from Ukrainian prisoners of war released between 2022 and 2024. russian torture practices were compared with Soviet-era methods documented in criminal cases and archival records on political detention.
In its new analytical report “Technologies of Terror”, the MIHR reveals the continuity of torture practices between russia and the Soviet Union and provides a legal assessment of these crimes.
