Meanwhile, the Media Initiative for Human Rights currently has more than a hundred names of hospital doctors, combat medics, and medical staff captured by russian troops. Human rights activists generally assume there may be more than 500 such prisoners. Most of them have been held by the russians for more than two years. Just like other prisoners and civilians held by the russian authorities, the medics are being kept in inhumane conditions, constantly tortured and humiliated. Ahead of the Medical Workers’ Day, which Ukraine celebrates on July 27, representatives of the families of the captured medics, the MIHR, and partners will appeal to the Ukrainian and international community to remind that those who should be using their knowledge and experience to save lives in Ukraine are in need of rescue themselves.
