Discussion entitled: “Children vs Career: How to Achieve Balance?”

Topics of focus:
– Can Ukraine overcome the gender gap in the labor force and the demographic crisis at the same time?
– What actions can the state take today to alleviate the double burden on Ukrainian women, both now and in the post-war period??

Why this is interesting:
Due to the labor market shortage, Ukrainian women are becoming increasingly economically active, even venturing into traditionally “male” professions. While this shift may stimulate the economy, there is a downside. Increased female employment could negatively impact the birth rate. The arrival of the first child typically reduces a woman’s working hours, and the second or third child often raises questions about the continuation of her career. The birth rate in Ukraine has already hit record lows over the past 30 years, and the current labor market pressure on Ukrainian women may only worsen the demographic crisis.
