Almost 450,000 people die of cardiovascular disease in Ukraine every year
Most of them are people of working age. One of the main reasons for such statistics is the indifferent attitude to lifestyle, now reinforced by the war factor. On the occasion of International Heart Day, on 29 September, the Ukraine-Lviv Media Center hosted a briefing on circulatory system protection.
“Behavioural disorders are among the main factors that provoke the onset and exacerbation of cardiovascular diseases. Smoking, alcohol consumption, reduced physical activity. It seems to be something elementary. But if we take a closer look and act on them, we can not only reduce morbidity rates. But also save the lives of people who die of heart attacks, strokes or other cardiovascular diseases,” explains Natalia Ivanchenko, General Director of the Lviv Regional Centre for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
“Up to 90% of cardiovascular diseases can be prevented. Because most often, these diseases are caused by unhealthy habits. Therefore, Ukrainians should take responsibility not only for their country but also for their hearts. Because we think it’s about anyone but me. But the statistics say otherwise,” assures Dmytro Kupyra, executive director of NGO Life.
