About 60% of educational establishments currently have shelters — Verkhovna Rada’s Education Committee

Serhii Babak, Chair of Verkhovna Rada’s Education, Science, and Innovations Committee made this statement at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“Oblast military administrations independently decide how the school will work in a certain settlement. Children’s safety is a priority for the state. Therefore, local authorities have been working for two months to ensure the availability of shelters in all educational institutions. As of now, more than 60% of institutions have shelters. But, even if the school works offline, there cannot be more children present than the shelter can accommodate,” — the People’s Deputy explained.

Currently, the relevant commissions are working to examine educational establishments for the presence of a bomb shelter and conclude whether a school can hold in-person lessons or not.
