4.3 thousand men enlisted for military service in the occupied territories of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions – human rights activists

They were forced to sign contracts with the russian Ministry of Defense or join the ranks of the occupiants as “volunteers”. Vira Yastrebova, attorney, director of the NGO “Shidna Pravosazahisna Grupa” (Eastern Human Rights Group), told about this at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.

She noted that the occupation authorities have recently started opening military registration departments. 

“It is currently known that the occupiers have registered 4.3 thousand men in these regions. Military registration takes place every day. According to our sources, it is known that those who have registered for military service will be forced to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense or join the occupants as “volunteers,” Yastrebova said.

She added that in the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions, mobilization is taking place under the laws of the russian federation. Control over men leaving the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and russia has been tightened at the borders of the temporarily occupied territories.

In addition, according to the lawyer, in July 2023 alone, 642 people were released from prison to participate in Russia’s military aggression.
