221 people dead and about 450 injured by mines and explosive ordnance – State Emergency Service

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 221 people have been killed by mines and explosive ordnance, and about 450 people have been injured.

Oleksandr Khorunzhyy, Press Officer of the State Emergency Service, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

He urged citizens not to approach or touch explosive ordnance but call 101 immediately.

The Spokesman of the State Emergency Service warned that in the occupied territories people mustn’t approach bodies of water, walk untrodden paths, go into fields, forest strips, etc.

In addition, Oleksandr Khorunzhyy, reported that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the EOD units of the State Emergency Service have been involved in demining efforts in over 63,000 cases. 3,049 aerial bombs have been defused as a part of these efforts.

According to Oleksandr Khorunzhyy, a total of 91,401 hectares of land have been inspected.

He also noted that, in addition to working in other regions, the largest number of EOD units of the State Emergency Service is concentrated in Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions.

The Spokesman of the agency also reported that currently the State Emergency Service is using 13 specialized demining equipment units, including robots. Oleksandr Khorunzhyy hopes that the number of machines will increase to 20 by the end of the year, and possibly even more with the support of international partners.
