174,000 square kilometers of Ukraine’s territory potentially contaminated with mines – Ihor Bezkaravainyi
Of the 174,000 square kilometers of potentially contaminated territory, about 20,000 square kilometers are currently available for demining efforts. In particular, these are the de-occupied territories and areas 20-30 kilometers away from the front line or the border with the russian federation and belarus.
Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“If we talk about the scale, then the specific number that we can now operate with is 174,000 square kilometers of potentially contaminated territory. Potentially contaminated does not mean that it is all contaminated, it is not a continuous minefield. This means that any square meter of these 174,000 square kilometers can be dangerous,” Ihor Bezkaravainyi explained.
