Short film contest for Ukrainian youth: Best videos to be shown worldwide

A short film contest of a British organization: winners will receive a cash prize of $1,000 and their works will be presented to millions of viewers around the world.

From September 20 to October 31, Ukrainian youth have a unique opportunity to participate in a short film contest organized by the British organization DO NOT LOOK AWAY.

To participate, you need to have a strong desire to tell your story about life in the country during the full-scale invasion. However, to make it easier for the contestants, the organizers suggest focusing on the following 5 themes:

Heroes among us. Present Ukrainians who are making a positive difference with their work today. It can be a teacher, a doctor, a hospital worker, a volunteer. Anyone who works for the good of the country and society. The film should highlight the resilience and solidarity that define modern Ukraine.

Lessons of hope. The main idea is education in times of war. Present the experience of the schools and universities where Ukraine’s future leaders study, highlighting the innovative teaching methods used during the full-scale invasion that played a crucial role in the nation’s development.

Strength through pain. Share personal stories of people who have overcome immense challenges – military personnel, internally displaced persons, or those trying to rebuild devastated communities. Amaze the world with the strength and determination of Ukrainians.

Global aid. Highlight the work of local and international volunteers who are helping Ukraine in its fight for independence. These films should emphasize the global solidarity of the international community and its contribution to Ukraine’s future.

United through sport. The films should showcase the ambition and perseverance of Ukrainian athletes.

“At DNLA, our mission is to show the world the resilience and spirit of the Ukrainian people through powerful stories that inspire action. The DNLA Short Film Contest is a unique opportunity for every Ukrainian to demonstrate their creativity and passion using just a smartphone. Participating in the contest is not only about promoting the incredible people of Ukraine, but also about helping us bring that message to an international audience. Together we can show the world what Ukraine stands for – hope, determination and freedom,” said Vincent Gillingham, Chairman of DNLA.

Video submission requirements: raw footage, no music, 1-5 minutes in length, that captures the story. Social media videos shot in selfie mode or with the help of friends.

These short films should inspire a global audience with insightful content and dynamic visuals.

The prize fund is $5,000, with $1,000 going to the winner in each category. In addition, the best films in each of the 5 categories will be professionally edited by a London-based film studio and broadcast worldwide.

Videos should be submitted to https://dnla.world/competition.php
